Contramestre Marcus Cabeça comes from the city of Sao Paulo and has been training Capoeira for over 20 years. He started Capoeira in Sao Paolo with Mestre Eddy Murphy and the group Maculele in 1996. Later, following his Master Eddy Murphy, he joined to begin training with Grupo Axé Capoeira - Mestre Barrão.

In 2002, Contramestre Marcus Cabeça moved to London and in 2003 met with the local Capoeira community. He trained with Mestre Pastel (Group Raízes de Rua) during 2 years and it was Mestre Pastel who introduced him to the many members of the London Capoeira community. At the end of 2005 following the instruction of Mestre Eddy Murphy and with the permission of Mestre Barrão, he began to prepare himself for teaching Capoeira in London under his arm of the group Axé Capoeira, named "Axé Capoeira UK".

Over the years Contramestre Marcus Cabeça has become a prominent figure in the Capoeira Community, and has made a significant impact in the local communities of Kingston and London.

His work as a teacher has been greatly recognised and has led to him being:

  • ZELADOR of Sao Paulo's Capoeira - by Mayor of Sao Paulo, Cultural Department & VADEIA SAMPA - DEC 2021
  • UK Coaching Finalist 2021 (among TOP 3 of the whole UK) - Children & Young People Coach
  • September 2021 LONDON SPORT Community Champion
  • QMC Appointed CLUB OF THE YEAR 2018 - By Kingston Council
  • Finalist UK Coach Intervention 2017 (among the TOP 3 of the whole UK).
  • Appointed one of London's Top 10 Sports Coaches (London Sports Awards 2014 - Sponsored by Gillette).
  • Awarded the Eileen Gray Trophy by Kingston Council (2010 & 2015).
  • Receiving Coach of the Year by Kingston University (2011)

Outside of his Capoeira school, Contramestre Marcus Cabeça has been lending his Martial Arts expertise to a number of organisations and upcoming films. Recently he has been working with Sky TV teaching Capoeira classes to their staff members. He has trained Octavia-Selena Alexandru for her role in the 'Assassin's Creed' film, and trained four cast members from the new Star Wars films. Furthermore, he was the main organiser of the Capoeira demonstration at the 2012 Paralympics Flag Handover Ceremony and at Brazil Day 2016 in Trafalgar Square, London.

For those who have known Contramestre Marcus Cabeça since he first started training Capoeira know what Capoeira means to him today. It is through Capoeira that he found the strength to recover from his terrible motorbike accident, which left him critically injured and unable to train for several years, and it is in Capoeira that he finds the strength to get through the obstacles we all face in our everyday lives.

Contramestre Marcus Cabeça is also an Advertiser graduated, with a Post-Graduation course in Creative Advertising and a recent Master Diploma in Managing the Creative Economy. He is also a "Life Coach in Training" while he still finishing his Life Coaching course, but is already able to apply his knowledge in his classes.

It is with this attitude that Contramestre Marcus Cabeça teaches his students the art of Capoeira, with discipline in a healthy and fun environment that shows them that Capoeira is more than just an exercise, as one of the biggest Capoeira Masters, Mestre Pastinha, said "Capoeira is everything the mouth eats!"
